The Chief Minister rolled out a door-to-door ration delivery scheme in the state last month
mohali:
The government of the AAM Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab today announced 300 units of free power for households with effect from July 1.
The announcement comes as the Bhagwant Mann-led government in the state has been in office for a month today.
Providing free electricity to every household for up to 300 units was one of AAP’s key promises ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls.
While making the pledge, AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said they had reached out to people across Punjab and found they were “very unhappy” about electricity costs.
“Punjab generates excess power, but has power cuts for hours on end. In addition, many people get overcharged,” he said.
Noting that the government of Punjab could make the announcement soon, Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Tuesday that his government will soon bring “good news” to the people of the state.
“Had a great meeting with our leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Very soon, will bring good news to the people of Punjab,” Mr Mann said in a Punjabi tweet.
