Actor-producer Vijay Babu accused of sexually abusing a woman has stepped down from the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
The actor will stay away from the organization’s executive committee until his innocence is proven in the sexual assault case to save the association from “disgrace”.
Vijay Babu has sent a letter saying that he did not want to discredit the organization he is a member of on the Executive Committee amid the allegations leveled against him. He would stay away from the Executive Committee for the time being until his innocence is proven. His letter (request) has been discussed by AMMA and has been approved,” said AMMA’s official statement released by General Secretary Edavela Babu.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Supreme Court on Friday declined to consider Vijay Babu’s anticipatory bail bond in connection with the sexual assault case.
In the anticipatory bail plea, Vijay Babu alleged that the actor who filed a complaint against him is trying to blackmail him.
Earlier this week, the Ernakulam South Police Department registered a case against Vijay Babu for assault on the actor’s complaint. After that, the police also registered another case against him for disclosing the complainant’s identity via Facebook.
Ernakulam South Police registered the case based on a woman’s complaint. According to the police, the complaint came in on April 22.
The complainant alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Vijay Babu in a flat in Kochi. The crime was repeated by the suspect more than once, she says in the indictment.
According to the indictment, Mr. Babu committed the crime on the pretext of offering the woman roles in films.
Earlier, the police also registered another case against him for disclosing the complainant’s identity via Facebook live through his official page.
