Following reports of an altercation involving Southern Air Command personnel and staff of a restaurant here, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has initiated an investigation into the matter.
An IAF statement issued on Friday said news was circulating in the media about an altercation on May 15 involving Indian Air Force personnel.
“Headquarters Southern Air Command has taken serious cognizance of the incident and the same is being thoroughly investigated to establish the facts in line with the Indian Air Force policy of zero tolerance towards cases of malfeasance, especially in public places,” it said the explanation. .
The probe comes a day after Kerala police registered a case against four Southern Air Command officials based on a complaint from a hotel.
A hotel official said there was a group of people causing trouble and their staff members were being beaten.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening and the trouble started when guests were asked to wait because the tables were not empty. This irritated the guests, who later became unruly, according to hotel staff.
Based on the hotel management's complaint, the local police have registered a case against four officials of the Southern Air Command.
Later, the police registered another case based on a complaint by the IAF officials that they were being harassed by the restaurant staff.
