If the price of petrol continues to rise by 80 paise a day, it would cost Rs 275 per liter by the November or December parliamentary elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, head of the Samajwadi party, said on Saturday.
Mr Yadav made the comment, calling his calculation of likely future petrol prices “the math of inflation under the BJP rule”.
Mr Yadav made his comments in a tweet in Hindi without mentioning the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh where parliamentary elections are likely to be held in November or December this year.
“People are saying that if the price of petrol continues to rise at 80 paise per day or Rs 24 per month at the current rate, it will rise by Rs 175 in the next seven months by November or December when the next election is likely,” he said. Yadav. in his tweet.
“It means that the petrol that is now sold for 100 rupees per liter would have cost 275 rubles per liter back then,” he said.
“This is the math of inflation under the BJP rule,” he added.
