Two right-wing groups have filed counter- appeals to the Supreme Court against the plea against the hate speech at religious gatherings in Haridwar and Delhi, which sparked public outcry across the country. Both organizations have appealed to the court to join the case.
On the appeal, Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta has demanded that Muslim leaders be arrested for their hate speeches instead.
The statements by religious leaders in Dharam Sansad were responses to attacks on Hindu culture by non-Hindus, and cannot be described as “hate speech,” the appeal claimed.
“Attempts are made to disgrace the spiritual leaders of Hindus… The petitioner belongs to the Muslim community and is not intended to object to any matter or activity related to the Hindu Dharm Sansad (sic)” , is stated in the plea, referring to the appeal. filed by journalist Qurban Ali against the speeches at the religious forums that have sparked outrage in the country.
The Hindu Sena president has also demanded that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and other Muslim leaders such as Waris Pathan be arrested, accusing them of giving hate speech.
Another organization, the Hindu Front for Justice, claimed that since the Supreme Court has agreed to investigate hate speech against Muslims, it should also investigate hate speech against Hindus. In their appeal, they cited 25 cases of alleged hate speech against Hindus.
Journalist Qurban Ali and Anjana Prakash, a former judge of the Patna High Court, had appealed the hate speech speeches in Haridwar and Delhi, which were condemned by activists and civil society.
Five former armed forces chiefs of staff and more than a hundred other people, including bureaucrats and prominent civilians, had written to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the “open call for genocide against Indian Muslims”, calling on them to offer protection. the integrity and security of our country.
On January 12, the Supreme Court had notified the Centre, the Government of Uttarakhand and the Delhi Police, requesting an explanation of the measures taken in this matter.
Shortly afterwards, Uttarakhand police arrested a speaker, Yati Narsinghanand, and Jitendra Narayan Tyagi (named Wazim Rizvi before his conversion) in connection with the case. Both are in pre-trial detention.
