Anu Tyagi, wife of arrested local politician Shrikant Tyagi, has started a new feud with inmates after planting palm trees in the community garden in front of her apartment at the Grand Omaxe association in Sector 93B, Noida.
Officials from the Noida government reached her home to talk to her. a day after members of the Tyagi community supported her and planted the trees.
The police had to intervene yesterday when the plantation was ready.
Illegal use of this communal space was the point where Shrikant Tyagi, who claimed to be a BJP peasant wing leader, abused a woman in society in August. He was arrested after an outcry on social media. He was granted bail in that case earlier this month, but remains in jail on other charges.
Anu Tyagi has said the BJP has “left” her husband after the controversy. However, the family has received support from some peasant leaders and caste groups.
Shrikant Tyagi, 34, was arrested on August 9 under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act from Meerut by the Noida Police Department following the August 5 video of his abusive misconduct with a woman. It took a massive search as he changed location and vehicle while on the run.
Police had said the dispute over the use of the common area began in 2019. The viral video also featured a woman asking Shrikant Tyagi not to close the area and use plants.
Police and local officials later demolished some barns and other parts of his ground floor apartment due to construction violations.
