Mrinmoy Kumar, the founder of Baahi (Baahi.xomoy.com), the first Assamese music streaming platform, says that the idea of the app came from a desire to listen to Assamese songs while he was away from home.
As a student from Tezpur in Assam, Mrinmoy strived for his Btech in Odisha. Some new, some old searches on different streaming platforms did not meet his needs. He felt the need for a platform for those who like to listen to Assamese music. As he was in Odisha as a student, Mrinmoy did his research and realized that some platforms contain popular albums of selected popular artists. His focus was on building a platform dedicated to Assamese songs, including Assamese people.

Apart from streaming regional music, the app is also suitable for original individual music. “We wanted to be a platform with which individual artists could introduce their music. Various independent artists continue to go unnoticed due to lack of a platform,” says Mrinmoy.
The platform was only a thought until the end of 2020.
Mrinmoy started working on the app with the help of coding videos on YouTube. “Computer science was my background in Btech, so it was easy for me to understand. We started approaching record labels to gain access to the database of classics of artists such as Bhupen Hazarika. We developed the app, gathered a database with songs, we also learned about industry,” Mrinmoy explains. They function with a team of 12 members.
