West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday while presiding over a ‘Hatey Khori’ event held in the state on the occasion of Saraswati Puja that Bengali is the second largest spoken language in Asia and the 5th in the world.
“We must remember that we have to learn our mother tongue no matter where we live,” she added.
Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee also congratulated the Governor of West Bengal Dr CV Ananda Bose on his particular interest in Bengali.
“I would like to congratulate the governor on his special interest in our mother tongue,” she said.

The 74th Republic Day was celebrated with trademark fervor and enthusiasm across West Bengal on Thursday, with Governor Bose leading an hours-long parade of army, navy, air force, police officers and civilians, including students.
A military helicopter scattered rose petals over Red Road, the site of the official program.
The governor hoisted the tricolor. In addition to Ms Banerjee, her colleagues from the cabinet, senior officials of the state and the three wings of the Indian Armed Forces were also present on the occasion.
