Patna:
In a setback at the RJD, the Bihar meeting rejected a proposal on Wednesday to recommend Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian price of India, for the veteran leader.
The question of awarding Bharat Ratna to Lalu Yadav has been a long -standing requirement of the RJD, often raised by his loyal supporters within the party.
On Wednesday, RJD Mukesh Roshan brought the proposal to the meeting again and he insisted on the Bihar government to recommend the name of Lalu Yadav to the central government.
In response to the proposal, the Parliamentary Minister of Affairs Vijay Kumar Chaudhary clarified that the state government makes recommendations every year for the Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, but there is currently no proposal for Lalu Yadav.
“From now on the Bihar government has no proposal to recommend Bharat Ratna for Lalu Yadav,” said Vijay Chaudhary.
At Mukesh Roshan he also insisted on withdrawing his proposal. However, when Roshan refused to satisfy, speaker Nand Kishore Yadav continued with a voice voice.
The proposal was ultimately rejected by the majority. The rejection came as a blow to RJD members who were visibly disappointed by the outcome.
With the elections of the Bihar -Assemblage of 2025, the demand for Bharat Ratna is seen as a political strategy to build public sentiment and to get support for Lalu Yadav, who remains a towering figure in Bihar -politics despite his health and legal problems.
RJD leaders and supporters expressed their dissatisfaction outside the meeting.
“Lalu Yadav has made important contributions to the social justice and empowerment of backward classes. He deserves the Bharat Ratna. This rejection is disappointing,” said Mukesh Roshan, the RJD MLA of Mahua Assembly Constitency in the Vaishali district.
