A man from Sitamarhi in Bihar has claimed he was stabbed for sharing a video supporting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma as his WhatsApp status. However, police had initially denied any such connection, saying based on local input that the man had been stabbed on the evening of July 15 after some argument while a group of men were under the influence of some “local tobacco”.
Ankit Jha, 23, who is being treated at a local nursing home in Darbhanga, has claimed that someone stabbed him multiple times in the back when he was watching a video of Nupur Sharma which he also uploaded as his WhatsApp status. . He was then rushed to a hospital.
The next day, the victim filed a written complaint containing four names. Two of the main suspects were arrested and sent to prison.
Some of the press has quoted Ankit Jha’s relatives as claiming that an FIR was registered “only after” they removed the reference to Nupur Sharma, PTI news agency reported.
“The stabbing incident took place on the 15th evening under the Nanpur Police Station after an argument between three to four people over cigarette smoke at a Pan store. Yesterday afternoon he made a statement in the news media linking it to the Nupur Sharma It is under investigation Har Kishore Rai, Chief Inspector of Police, Sitamarhi, said after a new FIR was filed based on Ankit Jha’s allegation.
Locals have also said that all those involved are from nearby villages and were acquaintances. The incident took place while they were smoking together in a pantry shop along the road, they said.
Nupur Sharma had recently caused a massive diplomatic backlash with her reprehensible comments about the Prophet Muhammad and Islam. Yesterday, citing “renewed” threats following the Supreme Court’s “unexpected and strong criticism” of her, she again approached the court to overturn her possible arrest and club nine cases filed over her comments across India.
Her new plea will be heard tomorrow by the same bench – Judge JB Pardiwala and Judge Surya Kant – who had criticized her on July 1.
