Bihar police on Sunday arrested eight people, including a Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) from the water resources department in connection with the theft of the 60-meter-high abandoned bridge in the Rohtas district, an official said.
Police recovered a JCB, stolen iron ducts weighing approximately 247 kilograms and other material from the suspect’s possession.
“We have arrested eight people, including an SDO officer from the water resources department in connection with the theft of the bridge. The thieves stole the bridge in consultation with the SDO. We recovered one JCB, stolen iron channels weighing about 247 kg and other material,” Ashish Bharti, Rohtas SP told ANI.
A gang of thieves posing as officials of the state’s irrigation department had committed an extraordinary robbery by stealing a 60-meter high abandoned bridge in Bihar’s Rohtas district in plain sight.
According to the police, the thieves arrived with JCBs, vans, gas cutters and vehicles, and in 3 days they cut the entire bridge and disappeared.
