A march by the BJP to the district collectorate here on Thursday in protest against the alleged theft of gold from Sabarimala ended in a clash with the police.
Several BJP workers were slightly injured during the police lathicharge. Police also used water cannons to disperse the protesters.
BJP State vice-president B. Gopalakrishnan and Palakkad eastern district president Prasanth Sivan led the march. Mahila Morcha workers also joined the protest by raising Ayyappa slogans.
Mr. Gopalakrishnan opened the march. He said temples, including Sabarimala, belonged to Hindus. He alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was the prime suspect in the Sabarimala gold theft case.
He demanded that the chief minister give up the home ministry and the Devaswom administration be dissolved.
