Mr. Jain has been in jail since June. A court in Delhi rejected his bail application last week.
New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi party Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said today that he need not comment on the leaked videos of his minister who is reportedly enjoying special privileges in jail as the “people will answer” in upcoming civil registry polls .
“MCD Elections become quite clear, it’s the BJP’s 10 videos vs. Kejriwal’s 10 guarantees. Let’s wait until December 4, the people of Delhi will respond to all those videos,” he said shortly after another video of Delhi minister Stayendar Jain who was chatting with guests and the meeting with the now suspended prison inspector in his cell surfaced.
Mr Kejriwal had previously defended Mr Jain and said his treatment in prison was by the book.
“There were no VVIP facilities in the prison for Satyendar Jain. Everything he got was as per the prison manual. The man eats roti, you ask why he eats roti. What kind of politics is this?” Mr Kejriwal said in a town hall of DailyExpertNews.
AAP fights with their backs against the wall as BJP leaders flood social media with security camera footage almost every day to back up their claim that AAP, who has opposed corruption and ‘VIP treatment’, is in fact indulging in the same thing . They accuse Mr. Jain of enjoying special benefits while awaiting trial.
Mr Jain has been seen in previous videos receiving foot and body massage from a man in his cell and chatting with other inmates, all of whom are not allowed in the prison. He was also seen eating fruit salad, questioning his prison food quality complaint.
In today’s leaked video, Mr. Jain was seen relaxing in his bed when he was visited by three people in casual clothes. A few minutes later, Ajit Kumar, superintendent of jail number seven at the time, enters and talks to Mr. Jain as the rest walk out.
The clips began days after the Enforcement Directorate accused Mr Jain, who was arrested in a money laundering case, of receiving special treatment at Tihar Jail. The charge of “VIP treatment” led to the transfer of at least 12 Tihar prison officers in addition to the Director General (Prisons), Sandeep Goel.
Mr. Jain has been in prison since June. A court in Delhi rejected his bail application last week.
