The mutilated bodies of a man and a woman have been recovered on a railway track in the Bhimganj Mandi area of Rajasthan, police said Monday.
It is suspected that the two jumped in front of a train to end their lives, they said.
However, according to the police, no note has been found confirming that the man and the woman died by suicide.
Ajay Singh Meena, 22, and Archana Meena, 22, cousins, went to Kota to pick up educational documents from Kota University, they said.
Police received information on Sunday evening that two bodies were lying on a railway track near the Chambal River across the bridge, Station House Officer of Bhimganj Mandi Police Station, Laxmichand said.
Upon reaching the site, police found the victims’ faces disfigured and their bodies mutilated, he said, adding that they had been identified based on documents recovered from the site.
According to an initial investigation, the man followed ITI while the woman was a student, the SHO said, adding that the two were residents of Swaimadhopur district.
He said a cousin of the deceased is a police officer stationed with the city’s Jawahar Nagar Police Department and that they would go to his house to stay overnight and collect the documents from the university on Monday.
A case has been registered in the case, Laxmichand said, adding that the bodies were handed over to relatives after autopsy.
