The Border Security Force intercepted a fifth Pakistani drone in the past four days as it crossed into India from the international border in Punjab to drop a shipment of drugs, officials said Monday.
The latest drone has been “knocked down” in the Amritsar sector. The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered the large black-colored drone with a load of suspected narcotics tied underneath it, they said.
The quantity and quality of the consignment is being ascertained, the official added.
This is the fifth reported interception of a “rogue” unmanned aerial vehicle along the Punjab border since May 19.
There have been a few more reported cases of troops picking up the buzzing sound of a drone over the past four days, but nothing more could be determined, the officials said.
The BSF forces shot down two drones on Friday (May 19) and intercepted a third along the front. A BSF spokesman had said the third drone had fallen into Pakistani territory and could not be recovered.
A drone that “violated Indian airspace on Saturday night (May 20) was intercepted by firing in the jurisdiction of the Amritsar sector” and the force recovered 3.3 kilograms of suspected narcotics hurled underneath.
Punjab shares a more than 500-kilometer front with Pakistan that is guarded by the BSF and drones and unmanned aerial vehicles flying from that country to India with drugs, weapons and ammunition have recently become a concern for security services. three-four years.
