New Delhi:
A 14-year-old boy was arrested Saturday in connection with an incident in which a woman was allegedly abducted, raped and paraded by her attackers in East Delhi’s Kasturba Nagar, officials said.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram said the latest suspect in the case, a 14-year-old minor involved in the alleged assault of the woman, was detained on Saturday.
All the accused (eight women, three underage boys and one man) named in the FIR have been arrested, he added.
An auto rickshaw used to kidnap the victim has also been seized, the DCP said.
A 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under an ACP rank officer has been formed for a prompt and thorough investigation of the crime, DCP Sathiyasundaram said.
On Wednesday, a woman was allegedly kidnapped, raped and paraded in the streets of Kasturba Nagar by the accused. Her hair was cut, the face was black, and a shoe with a sling hung around her neck.
Earlier, police had said the preliminary investigation revealed that the woman and a boy belonging to the suspect’s family were friends.
“The boy committed suicide last November and his family blamed the victim (wife). The family claimed that it was because of her that the boy took the extreme step. To take revenge on her, the relatives allegedly kidnapped her. wanted to teach her a lesson,” a senior police officer had said.
In her complaint to the police, the woman claimed that she had been abducted by relatives, who live near her mother. They took her to their home where they allegedly mistreated her. In addition, they cut her hair and forcibly forced her to wear a wreath of slippers. They then publicly humiliated her by parading her, an official had said.
