New Delhi:
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a new moon mission, “Chandrayaan-4”, aimed at developing and demonstrating technologies required to land Indian astronauts on the moon and bring them back safely to Earth.
The Chandrayaan-4 mission will provide the foundational technologies for landing Indian astronauts on the moon (planned for 2040) and returning them safely to Earth, a statement said.
“Key technologies required for docking, undocking, landing, safe return to Earth, and lunar sample collection and analysis will be demonstrated,” the report said.
The total funding requirement for the technology demonstration mission “Chandrayaan-4” is Rs 2,104.06 crore, the statement said.
ISRO will be responsible for the development of spacecraft and launch. The mission is expected to be completed within 36 months after approval with participation of industry and academia.
The intention is that all critical technologies will be developed domestically.
