Cartoonist Narayan Debnath, creator of Bengali cartoon characters’Bantul the Great‘, ‘Handa Bhonda‘ and ‘Nonte Phonte‘, died Tuesday morning in Kolkata after a long illness, the hospital where he was treated said.
He was 97.
Debnath, a Padma Shri winner, died at 10:15 am, a hospital official said.
He was admitted to a private hospital on December 24 and on a ventilator.
