A special CBI court on Tuesday ordered the release of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s passport for renewal, his counsel said.
Mr Prasad had appealed to the court to release his passport to renew it, citing the need to travel abroad for a possible kidney transplant.
“The court has ordered the release of his passport. We will probably get it tomorrow. Lalu Prasad Yadav will also pray in court in four other cases related to feeding scams to allow passport renewal,” his defense counsel told Prabhat Kumar to PTI.
Once the passport is renewed, it will be filed with the court and Mr Prasad will request its release when he gets an appointment for treatment abroad, Kumar said.
The 73-year-old RJD chief was released on bail on April 22 by the Jharkhand High Court in the Doranda treasury embezzlement case of more than Rs 139 crore, in which a special court of the CBI sentenced him to five years in prison.
