The CBI on Thursday questioned TMC youth leader Ashish Pandey, who also works as an in-house counselor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with the rape and murder of the doctor, an officer said.
Mr. Pandey was interrogated for hours at the CBI office in the CGO Complex before leaving late in the evening, he said.
“Pandey's phone number was found in the call logs of several persons. He had checked into a hotel in Salt Lake with a female friend on the day the junior doctor's body was found. We are trying to trace his activities on that day,” the CBI official said.
The CBI has also informed the hotel management about Mr. Pandey's bookings and payments.
“The hotel room was booked through an app. He checked in on August 9 in the afternoon and left the next morning. We are trying to find out what was the purpose of his stay there,” the officer said.
On August 9, the body of the trainee doctor was found in the hospital, sparking national outrage.
