Home-cooked food, medicines and a special room were among the facilities granted by a court to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu for his 14-day stay in jail.
An ACB court in Andhra Pradesh’s Amravati ordered the superintendent of Rajamahendravaram Central Jail to house 73-year-old Naidu separately in view of the alleged threat to his life. The former CM is a Z-plus category security guard.
“The Superintendent of Central Jail is directed to provide all special facilities including food (home cooked), medicines and special room in Central Jail to the petitioner/A37 (Naidu),” the judge ordered.
According to the arrest warrant, the judge emphasized that there are reasons to believe that the allegations were made against Naidu and that 24 hours were not enough to complete the investigation.
“This is an authority to you (Superintendent) to take Naidu into custody and ensure that he is produced before the Court on September 22, 2023 at 10:30 am,” the judge ordered.
Amid tight security and bad weather, the former Andhra Pradrsh CM was sent in a convoy to Rajamahendravaram by road from Vijayawada, a distance of about 200 km.
After Naidu was sent to jail, his son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh wrote an emotional note on .
“My anger boils and my blood boils. Is there no limit to the depths to which political revenge will sink? Why should a man of my father’s caliber, who has achieved so much for his country, state and Telugu people, have to suffer such injustice? Lokesh asked.
Lokesh said he and his father were ‘fighters’ as he appealed to people to join him in his fight and sought support from Telugu people across the world.
Janasena Party president Pawan Kalyan alleged that Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was trying to brand political opponents as criminals and send them to jail just because he once did the same.
According to the actor-politician, who is the local ally of the BJP in the southern state, Reddy would not have become the chief minister if the laws had worked effectively.
On Sunday evening, the ACB court in Vijayawada sentenced Naidu to 14 days’ judicial custody for his alleged role in the multi-crore Skill Development Corporation scam.
Naidu was arrested in Nandyala before dawn on Saturday, with officers knocking on the door of the caravan where he was sleeping.
The former CM was arrested by the CID around 6 am on Saturday from a wedding hall (outside of which his caravan was parked) at Gnanapuram in Nandyala.
