A Chinese woman suspected of spying on the Dalai Lama was detained by police in the Gaya district of Bihar today. She will probably be sent back to China.
Earlier today, the local police had issued a security warning as the Dalai Lama is expected to participate in various events in the Bihar district. Sketches of the suspected Chinese spy, identified as Song Xiaolan, had been released and circulated on social media with authorities asking residents to provide information about her.
According to input, the suspected Chinese spy had been living in various parts of the country, including Bodh Gaya, for more than a year. However, there is no report in the foreign section on the Chinese woman’s residence.
The Dalai Lama has this year resumed his annual tour to Bodh Gaya, which had been suspended for the past two years due to the Covid pandemic.
Security has been heightened in and around the Mahabodhi Temple complex.
The Dalai Lama addressed a gathering at the Maidan ‘Kaal Chakra’ this morning. He will give his speech every day for three days until December 31.
