Bhopal:
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday assured immediate compensation to a female farmer whose crop was damaged by the unusual rain in the state. The woman received a check for Rs 50,000 the same day, but it turned out to be from the personal account of a village patwari – a rural land registry officer.
The check had the signature of Jitendra Kumar Sharma, the patwari.
The Chief Minister met the farmer, Rajkumari Bai, during his visit to Bajawan village in Ashoknagar district, which was hit by rain and hailstorms. He was seen comforting the elderly woman who collapsed as she told of her crop loss.

After inspecting the damage, Mr. Chouhan instructed the collector to complete the damage investigation by January 18.
The amount of aid is provided by the state government. Farmers are compensated for their crop loss by combining ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ with the aid amount announced by the state.
The opposition has now criticized the BJP-led government of Madhya Pradesh for the gaffe.
Congress spokesman KK Mishra has accused the state government of taking credit for the money spent by an administrative official.
“The government is claiming someone else’s expenses. The help was provided by an official, but who got the credit for it?’ wrote Mr Mishra in a tweet in Hindi.
However, the collector of Ashoknagar, Uma Maheshwari, denied having any knowledge of how the first check was issued by the lower bureaucracy. “We have issued a check for Rs 50,000 and the check will be cashed tomorrow,” she said. The second check was presented by the Red Cross.

More than 50 percent of the wheat, mustard, gram and lentil crops were damaged by rain and hail. The state government has announced an aid amount of Rs 30 thousand per hectare and the prime minister has said that 25 percent of the insurance amount will be paid ahead of the insured crop hit by the hail storm. The remaining 75 percent is paid by the insurance company to the farmers involved after settlement.
