India registered 2,685 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the number of infections to 4,31,50,215, while the number of active cases rose to 16,308, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health.
The death toll rose to 5,24,572 with 33 fatalities.
The active cases comprise 0.04 percent of the total number of infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 percent, the ministry said.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.60 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.54 percent, the ministry said.

For the first time in Maharashtra, four patients of the BA 4 variant and three cases of BA 5 variants of the Omicron subline of coronavirus have been found in Maharashtra, an official from the state health department said on Saturday.
