Bombay:
A magistrate has ordered a 22-year-old law student, arrested for reprehensible comments about women during two conversations on the Clubhouse app, to undergo counseling for “general social behavior”.
This was one of the conditions the court set when granting bail to the accused, Yash Kumar.
Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Komalsing Rajput granted bail to Kumar on Feb. 1. The detailed order became available on Thursday.
“Irresponsible use” of social media was widespread, especially among teens, she said.
The issue needs immediate attention or the situation could spiral out of control, the magistrate added.
Kumar is a third year law student at AMITY University, Noida.
“As a law student, there is a heavier responsibility on his shoulders compared to other citizens,” the court said.
The court also asked Kumar not to leave Mumbai for a month. He will remain present for the investigating officer if necessary and cooperate with the investigation, the judge added.
A woman filed a complaint with the Cyber Police Department on January 19, 2022, alleging offensive comments against women in certain Clubhouse app conversations on October 27 and November 27 last year.
