Port Blair:
Normal life in parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was affected by rain and high winds from Cyclone Asani on Sunday, officials said.
Shipping services between the islands have been halted and fishermen have warned against entering the sea as the first cyclone of the year approaches the archipelago, they said.
About 100 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been deployed and six relief camps opened in different parts of the islands as a precautionary measure, officials said.
Northern and central Andamans faced rain and high winds, but life in Port Blair remained normal, they said.
“Yesterday’s well-marked low pressure area deepened into a depression over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and adjacent South Andaman Sea at 0530 IST today March 20, 2022. The system is expected to move towards the coasts of Bangladesh and Myanmar.
