The doctor who cared for Cyrus Mistry after he was taken to a government hospital in Kasa on Sunday following a traffic accident said the former chairman of Tata Sons suffered a head injury when his car rammed into the partition and he was “brought dead” to the hospital.
Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was killed in a traffic accident near Mumbai on Sunday. According to the Palghar police, Mistry was on his way from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when his car hit the partition. Four people were in the car, two of whom died on the spot, including Mistry, and the other two were taken to hospital.
Speaking to ANI, Dr. Shubham Singh: “In the beginning, two patients were brought, including Cyrus Mistry and Jahangir Pandol. Both were brought dead. The locals who brought them told us that Cyrus Mistry had died on the spot. Jahangir Pandol was alive on the spot, but he died in transit. We pronounced him dead around 5:00 PM.”
“After 10 minutes, the second ambulance arrived with the other two patients. Both had injuries. Both received first aid and were transferred to a higher center. Their relatives took them to Rainbow hospital, from where they were flown to Mumbai,” he added. up.
The doctor advised that the autopsy was to be done at the government hospital, but they received a call from the district collector saying they should be transferred to JJ Hospital for “expert opinion.”
“Cyrus Mistry had a head injury and Jahangir Pandol had a left leg fracture and head injury. Their autopsy was due to take place here, but we received a call from the community police officer and SP that they should be transferred to JJ Hospital for expert advice,” said Dr Shubham.
According to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Palghar, Balasaheb Patil, the accident happened because the driver lost control of the wheel due to excessive speed.
“It appears that the accident happened due to the driver losing control of the steering wheel. More details will not be revealed until after the investigation, but at first glance it appears that the accident happened due to excessive speed and that the driver did not got the correct verdict. There were 4 people in the car, including a woman and the woman was driving the car. At the moment, the woman is injured and is being treated,” said the police officer.
The official noted the presence of “blind spots” in several places on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway and stated that the subject has been referred to the Blind Spot Eradication Committee.
“Efforts are also being made by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to eliminate these blind spots,” the SP said.
The official said there is a need to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
“A detailed investigation is needed in the context of the incident that took place today. DCM has also ordered a detailed investigation and an investigation is also underway under its instructions,” said Mr Patil.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered condolences on the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and recalled him as a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic might.
“The untimely passing of Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a promising business leader who believed in the economic power of India. His passing is a great loss to the world of commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace the prime minister said in a Twitter post.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde offered his condolences on Mistry’s death.
“Shocked by the passing of former Tata Sons chief Cyrus Mistry. As well as being a successful entrepreneur, he was also seen in the industry as a young, bright and visionary personality. It is a great loss… My sincere tribute” Prime Minister Shinde said.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also expressed his condolences on Mistry’s death.
“Deeply saddened to learn that ex-chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry Ji, has passed away in a road accident near Palghar, Maharashtra. Sincere condolences to his family members. May he rest in peace,” Gadkari tweeted.
On Twitter, Supriya Sule, MP for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said: “Devastating news. My brother Cyrus Mistry has passed away. I can’t believe it. Rest in peace Cyrus.”
RPG Enterprises chairman Harsh Goenka also expressed his grief over Mistry’s passing.
“So sad to hear of the shocking news of Cyrus Mistry’s death in an accident. He was a friend, a gentleman, a man of substance. He was instrumental in creating the global construction giant Shapoorji Pallonji and led the Tata group proficient,” Mr Goenka tweeted.
Mistry, the sixth chairman of Tata Sons, was removed from office in October 2016. He had taken over as chairman in December 2012 after Ratan Tata announced his retirement. N Chandrasekaran later took over the position of Executive Chairman of Tata Sons.
