New Delhi:
As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ease of Living Mission, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced the installation of 'Mist Sprayers' on electricity poles to combat rising air pollution and create a clean, green and beautiful NDMC area retain. to Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Monday.
Kuljeet Singh Chahal stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, efforts are aimed at improving urban living standards and implementing the Ease of Living mission in a structured manner. The NDMC's initiative is an important step towards making the area pollution-free, the municipality's statement said.
In the first phase, 15 mist sprinklers will be installed on electric poles along a 500-metre stretch of Lodhi Road. Each pole will be equipped with five sprinklers, with each sprinkler having six spray holes, resulting in 30 sprinkler points per pole. The system uses 81 liters of water per mast per operating hour. To support this, four tanks with a capacity of 5,000 liters each will be installed, using treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) to save fresh water.
Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the project is currently in its initial stages and is expected to be implemented next year, with plans to complete the work within a specified timeline.
He further added that after the successful implementation on Lodhi Road, the project will be expanded to key locations such as Shanti Path and Africa Avenue, with a wider rollout planned across the NDMC jurisdiction.
Highlighting other pollution control initiatives, Kuljeet Singh Chahal stated that NDMC has deployed Mechanical Road Sweepers (MRS) equipped with GPS tracking for efficient road cleaning. Real-time monitoring of these operations is carried out through the Smart City Integrated Command and Control Center.
The municipality has also purchased anti-smog guns and fog sprayers to reduce dust and particulate matter. Water tankers with capacities ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 liters are used for watering roadside trees and shrubs, using treated water from WWTPs to minimize freshwater consumption.
In addition, NDMC organizes tree plantation drives to enhance greenery and ensures regular irrigation of green spaces along the road. Dust control measures are strictly enforced on construction sites. All these efforts are in line with the Honorable Prime Minister's vision of a pollution-free India.
Kuljeet Singh Chahal affirmed that Team NDMC is committed to taking innovative and effective pollution control measures while maintaining the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
