The rejection of these nominations has reduced the effective number of valid nominations submitted by Congressional candidates to less than 250.
Until 10pm, the number of valid nominations for Congress was 243 out of 405 nominations submitted, and for the AAP and BJP, the corresponding numbers were 255 (out of 728 total nominations) and 252 (out of 654), respectively. according to data shared by official sources.
The status of 65 nominations was still pending, they said, adding that control of pending applications will be taken over by returning officers on Thursday.
Nomination submissions began on November 7 and the last date was November 14. Examination of nomination papers will take place on Nov. 16, while the last date for candidacy withdrawal is Nov. 19, the official had previously said.
Common grounds for rejection of nomination papers included incomplete forms, missing affidavits, multiple nominations, failure to file valid caste certificates and invalid Form A/B, sources said.
Of the total number of candidates, the Independent had the maximum share with 507, followed by AAP with 492 candidates, before examination.
Of the other parties, 423 candidates had submitted their papers to the BJP, 334 from the Congress, 149 from the Bahujan Samaj Party, 31 from JD(U), 20 from AIMIM and nine from the CPI(M) by November 14.
