The Delhi Police on Friday raided and seized the laptop and phone of Malayali journalist and former NewsClick employee Anusha Paul from her residence near Kodumon here.
After a three-member team of Delhi Police recorded her statement and seized her electronic devices, Paul told the media that she was being questioned about her links with NewsClick and the CPI(M).
She said the questions ranged from whether she was covering farmers’ protests, anti-NRC-CAA protests or the Union government’s COVID-19 management.
“This is a witch hunt to threaten the organization and its associates, who raised their voice against the Narendra Modi government and the RSS,” Paul said.
Ms. Paul was staying in Kerala for the treatment of a close relative.
She told the media that the Delhi Police had asked her if she knew CPI(M) state secretary KM Tiwari.
“Of course I know him. I told them. He is the state secretary of the CPI(M). I am a CPI(M) worker. I am a member of the state committee of the Delhi unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and its treasurer,” she said.
She added that the Kerala Police was not part of the raid team.
“Later, the local police came and said they were not aware of the raids,” she claimed.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday evening arrested NewsClick founder and editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha and human resources chief Amit Chakravarty after questioning a total of 46 journalists and contributors to the online news portal and stealing their mobile phones and other electronic gadgets during the day are taken.
