Domestic worker in Delhi was ‘beaten’ by her employers who also chopped off her hair (Representational)

A 48-year-old woman, who worked as a domestic worker, was reportedly beaten by her employers who also cut her hair in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, police said Thursday.
The incident took place on Sunday, they said.
According to the police, the victim – Rajni – is from Siliguri in West Bengal and worked as a domestic worker in Delhi. She is currently undergoing treatment and her family in Siliguri has been informed. The woman was paid Rs 7,000 per month by the accused couple.
Deputy Police Commissioner (West) Ghanshyam Bansal said: “Information was received on May 17 about an MLC (medical-legal case) from a lady from Safdarjung Hospital. According to the MLC, the patient was brought to the victim with an alleged history.” of physical violence by her employers.”
Police reached the hospital and recorded Rajni’s statement alleging that her employer, Abhineet and his wife, assaulted her and also chopped off her hair.
A case under sections of voluntarily causing pain, wrongful detention and assault has been registered, the DCP said, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused couple.
According to her agency, they received a call from employers late Sunday evening that Rajni had fallen ill and had to be taken home.
“They (couple) dropped her (Rajni) at my office and left. Later I found her in her own urine and saw that she could not move. She was not unwell, they had beaten her up”, the owner of the employment agency told Press Trust of India news agency.
“I took her to the hospital where she told me that the couple would attack her regularly. On Sunday, the couple dragged her out of her room and chopped off her hair. She had injuries all over her body,” he added.
“The medical examination report from Safdarjung Hospital stated that the woman had suffered ‘physical abuse’, ‘head trauma’ and ‘vomited’. She also had injuries to her eyes, face, limbs, abdomen and other body parts,” police said.
According to the police, the woman started working for the couple in September last year.
“The couple has been in contact with the agency for a long time. Before Rajni, they had hired another woman but fired her for stealing and fortifying their food with rat poison,” another officer said.
