Interior Minister Amit Shah was chairman of an assessment meeting on the implementation of three new penalty laws in Jammu and Kashmir, in the presence of Lieutenant -Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The meeting assessed the implementation and current status of various new provisions regarding police, prisons, courts, persecution and forensic investigation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by the Home Secretary, main secretary and director -general of the police of Jammu and Kashmir, the director -general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), the director -general of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB ), and other senior officials from the Ministry of the Interior (MHA) and the UT administration.
During the discussion in the meeting, the Minister of the Interior Shah asked the UT administration to ensure full performance of the three new penal laws, made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Jammu and Kashmir in April 2025. He said that optimum use of Technology technology must be made to quickly guarantee justice among the three new penal laws.
The Minister of the Interior said that for the complete implementation of the new laws it is necessary to change the attitude of police personnel and administration and to create awareness about the new laws among citizens.
He stated that the police with a decrease in terror activities and improvement of security scenarios in Jammu and Kashmir should now give priority to the protection of the rights of its citizens. HM Shah added that there is an urgent need to use the determination of the process in the event of the Union.
The Minister of the Interior emphasized the need to resolve the responsibility of police officers to speed up the process of submitting tax states. He said that every police station in Jammu and Kashmir should put the maximum use of the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) into practice.
He said that 100 percent training of investigating officers with regard to the provisions of the new laws should be guaranteed at the earliest. HM Shah said that decisions on provisions regarding terrorism and organized crime should only be taken after thorough control at the level of the superintendent of the police. He added that strict monitoring is required to ensure that these provisions under the new laws are not abused.
The Minister of the Interior said that the government and the government of Jammu and Kashmir have done a satisfactory work for the implementation of the new criminal laws despite difficult circumstances. He said that the progress of the implementation of the three new laws in Jammu and Kashmir should be revised every month, biweekly and weekly, at the level of the main minister, chief secretary and director -general of police, respectively.
Minister President Omar Abdullah, who attended the meeting, later said that some weak areas were noticed as immediate attention.
He said in a trade union area that the elected government is not responsible for the implementation of the law, but has indicated that it could play a role in increasing consciousness on the new law.
