Jangminlun Gangte, 30, was killed in a gunfight, the ITLF said

After days of silence, new fierce firefights have been reported from the border area of the Kuki-dominated districts of Churachandpur and Meitei.
Manipur police said two persons were killed in the fighting in villages bordering Naransena. Seven people sustained bullet or splinter injuries. The district police, Assam Rifles, army and central forces deployed in the area responded and brought the situation under control, the police said.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum claimed that today a village volunteer was killed firing on villages in the Khoirentak area. He has been identified as 30-year-old Jangminlun Gangte.
A fierce firefight is taking place between Khoirentak and the Thinunggei area, sources said.
In another incident, a farmer was fired upon from the foothills by suspected militants, sources said.
Salam Jotin, 40, son of Iboton – a resident of Naransena ward number 8 – was shot this morning while visiting his paddy field in Thinungei Maning Leikai.
He suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and is receiving medical treatment at the private hospital in Imphal. Doctors said his condition is serious.
More than 140 people have died in Manipur since violence flared in the northeastern state in May.
