A 31-year-old woman died and a couple are trapped in ruins after a sixth-floor section collapsed on the first floor of a swanky apartment complex in Gurgaon yesterday.
They work hard to save the trapped couple. The man, identified as Mr. Srivastava, has been found. His leg is trapped under the rubble and he is being treated for his injuries. His wife has not yet been found, Gurgaon deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said.
Residents have said a piece from the sixth-floor parlor crashed into the first floor. Kaushal Kumar, a resident, said the incident took place in Tower D around 6 p.m. “The parlor area from the sixth to the first floor collapsed,” he told ANI news agency. Mr Kumar added that four families lived in the tower and two of the six flats were vacant.
An FIR has been registered against the builder of Chintels Paradiso in Gurgaon Sector 109 following a complaint from the husband of Ekta Bhardwaj, who was killed in the incident.
In his complaint against the director of the Chintels group, Ashok Salomon, Rajesh Bhardwaj said his wife Ekta suffered fatal injuries after several floors in Tower D of the apartment complex collapsed. He accused the builder and contractor of “negligent and substandard construction” and sought legal action against them.
The FIR is registered under the sections of the Indian Penal Code related to causing death by negligence.
Local MLA Rakesh Daultabad has said strict measures will be taken against the builder. “We are now focusing on rescue work to save lives,” he said.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are conducting rescue efforts. Footage shows rescuers comforting the trapped man as efforts to retrieve his leg from the rubble continue.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said he is monitoring the situation.
“Administrative officials, along with SDRF and NDRF teams, are busy with rescue and relief work following the unfortunate collapse of the roof of the apartment at the Paradiso Residential Complex in Gurugram. I am personally monitoring the situation and praying for everyone’s safety.” said Mr Khattar. tweeted last night.
