Kolkata:
BJP Vice Chairman Dilip Ghosh questioned the visit of Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to Tripura on Sunday, claiming there was nothing left for the party in the northeastern state after the polls there.
While insisting that the TMC should instead pay attention to the development of West Bengal, he claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s pet project ‘Duare Sarkar’ (Government at its doorstep), another edition of which was to start from Sunday , was canceled due to lack of funds .
“TMC has nothing left in Tripura, why is he (Abhishek Banerjee) going? People of Tripura have made it clear that such a party will not survive there,” Mr Ghosh told reporters here.
He said the TMC government should ensure that the people of West Bengal do not have to go out to look for work.
“Whether TMC will flourish in Tripura or Goa will be seen later, but from now on they should pay attention to Bengal,” he said.
The TMC is trying to spread its wings in different parts of the country and has said it will fight the election polls in Goa and Tripura.
Mr Ghosh claimed that government projects in West Bengal were running on roadblocks due to lack of planning and funding.
“They are canceling Duare Sarkar in reference to COVID, but the fact is there is no money,” he said.
TMC MP Sougata Roy hit back at the BJP leader, asking if “Dilip Ghosh has controlled the treasury of the government of West Bengal”.
Mr Roy said the program has been canceled to avoid crowds in the ‘Duare Sarkar’ centers where people, mainly women, are queuing in large numbers for various schemes such as widows’ and old-age pensions.
“The state government has made the right decision (by halting the program),” he said.
