Dhule, Maharashtra:
Four members of a family, including two children, were found dead in their house in Dhule's Pramod Nagar area on Thursday, police said.
The deceased were identified as agricultural fertiliser seller Praveen Mansingh Girase, his wife Geeta Praveen Girase, who worked as a teacher, and their two children, Mitesh Praveen Girase and Soham Praveen Girase.
Their bodies were found in their house in Pramod Nagar area of Samarth Colony under Deopur police station in Dhule district, police said.
According to the police, they must have died about three to four days ago. There was a very foul odor coming from the house.
It is suspected that Praveen Girase hanged himself and his wife and two children died after consuming a poisonous substance. The reason why the family took this extreme step is not yet clear, police said.
Despite being a wealthy family, this horrific incident has shocked the people of Dhule. A thorough investigation is underway to find out whether it is a mass suicide or something else, police said.
Girase's house has been closed for the past four days.
According to the police, the woman who used to come for housework also went back twice. She thought the family had gone to their native village.
When people in the area did not hear any sound from the house even after four days, some alerted Sangeeta, Praveen Girase's sister.
Sangeeta reached Praveen’s house on Thursday morning and with the help of bystanders opened the door. Praveen’s body was found hanging in a room of the house and the bodies of his wife and children were found on the floor.
As soon as the information came in, the police administration was also immediately on the scene. The citizens from the area also rushed to the scene.
All four bodies were taken by ambulance to the county hospital morgue, authorities said.
