In an effort to prepare for any eventuality, which is now part of its ethos, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will today conduct an abort test for the Gaganyaan manned space mission.
A similar, foolproof approach had been taken for Chandrayaan-3, which had furthered the history of the ISRO script by making India the first country to land closer to the moon’s south pole in August. However, the stakes are much higher this time because human lives will be involved.
Gaganyaan’s crew module escape system will be tested live from Sriharikota. This is the first of 20 major tests that ISRO has planned for the near future. All this in an effort to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of setting up an Indian space station by ISRO by 2035 and launching an Indian astronaut to the moon by 2040.

ISRO on Saturday rescheduled the launch of its first test vehicle for the Gaganyaan space mission by 30 minutes from the spaceport here.
Test Vehicle D1’s mission was scheduled to lift off from the first launch pad at 8 a.m., which was revised to 8:30 a.m.
“The launch has been rescheduled to 08:30 IST,” an ISRO update said on ‘X’. An announcement about this was also made at the Mission Control Center.
While the reason for the change in timing was not immediately known, sources said it could be due to rainfall and cloudy weather conditions.
