In the gang rape of a teenager in Hyderabad, police have demanded “sufficient evidence” of the Innova car found Sunday at a farm in which the girl was attacked. The car had been washed, but forensic teams reportedly found samples to prove assault.
Evidence collected from the car includes tissues and an earring belonging to the 17-year-old girl who was raped by five gang rapes, including three minors with ties to powerful politicians.
The girl and her attackers had met on May 28 at a party in a pub in Hyderabad’s chic Jubilee Hills.
DailyExpertNews has learned that the pub had been booked by two minors for a large party before the school reopened. After reserving the space for Rs 900 to 1,000 per person, they reportedly sold tickets for Rs 1,300 each to those attending the party.
The girl came to the party with her boyfriend, who left early. Later, she met the group that attacked her in the Innova car the same evening. Security footage shows her standing outside the club with the group.
The police recorded their statement yesterday in the presence of a magistrate.
Four of the attackers are in police custody – a suspect named Sadauddin Mallik and three minors. The police have requested ten days’ detention of the four. A fifth suspect, Omair Khan, is on the run.
Of the three minors, one is the son of a leader of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), who chairs a government-run minority institution, the second is the son of another TRS leader, and the third is the son of of a corporation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Home Secretary Mahmood Ali has vehemently denied that his grandson was involved in the pub booking. Speaking to DailyExpertNews, he said he had CCTV footage of his grandson at home that night.
The involvement of teenagers from politically influential families has led to a nationwide condemnation of the attack and has raised questions about the safety of women in some of India’s top cities.
