Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi hosted a Pongal event on Thursday attended by top opposition leaders including AIADMK.
Members of the ruling DMK and its allies were notable for their absence from the event that took place days after the controversy over the governor’s customary speech to the state assembly.
The governor had then made a number of deviations against which Prime Minister MK Stalin introduced a resolution, even as Ravi left the house.
AIADMK interim chief and opposition leader K Palaniswami, his rival O Panneerselvam, leaders of both factions and many others attended the event held at the sprawling Raj Bhavan garden.
Guests were presented with a courageous cultural program centered around the folk arts of Tami Nadu.
Ravi, dressed in the traditional Tamil dress ‘veshti’ and accompanied by his wife, personally greeted the guests.
The Pongal event also had controversy over the absence of the state government emblem in the Raj Bhavan invitation to the gala which was criticized by many in the state including political parties.
