Bombay:
The Nationalist Congress Party or NCP took a swipe at the Center on Wednesday, saying it should replicate the Morbi Civil Hospital’s overnight makeover plan in all government hospitals in the country and call it the “Gujarat Hospital Model.”
The comments came after the hospital in the town of Morbi in Gujarat was refurbished ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit there on Tuesday to meet those injured in the suspension bridge collapse that claimed 135 lives.
Prior to the Prime Minister’s visit, workers were seen cleaning and painting part of the hospital.
National NCP spokesman Clyde Crasto said in a statement that a day before the Prime Minister’s visit, there was footage of the Morbi Civil Hospital getting a “complete makeover” looking neat, clean and modern to welcome him. .
Government agencies in Morbi took the prime minister’s visit so seriously that they even replaced faulty drinking water dispensers with new drinking water coolers, he claimed.
They’ve worked so diligently that the hospital now looks as good as new, Crasto said.
“This makeover will definitely help the people who visit the hospital in the future. Therefore, the questions that arise are, if the Gujarat government and the public authorities can refurbish a hospital overnight, why can they don’t do the same for all hospitals around the world? the state?” said the NCP leader.
He said authorities have proven that they can make hospitals neat, clean and modern at any time if they wish.
If the Gujarat government does not do this statewide it will prove that the victims of the Morbi bridge collapse and the people of Gujarat are of no importance to them and all this was done only to appease the Prime Minister , he said.
“If so, then it’s a really shameful and insensitive act on their part,” Crasto said.
“They central government) should replicate the Morbi Civil Hospital overnight makeover plan in all government hospitals in the country and call it the ‘Gujarat hospital model,’ he suggested.
