Valsad, Gujarat:
An 18-year-old man suffered severe burns after his “burning haircut” went horribly wrong at a salon in Vapi town in Gujarat’s Valsad district, police said today.
The ‘fire haircut’, which has been gaining popularity in recent years, is a process in which a hairdresser or barber uses fire on the client’s hair to style it.
The incident took place on Wednesday, with the fire on the man’s hair spiraling out of control.
The man suffered severe burns to his neck and chest and was immediately taken to hospital. He was then referred to the civilian hospital in Valsad, an official from the city police station in Vapi said.
Investigating Officer Karamsinh Makwana said efforts are being made to record the statements of both the 18-year-old victim and the hairdresser.
“We are trying to get the statement from the victim. He has been admitted to the civilian hospital in Valsad. We learned that he was taken from there to a hospital in Surat,” said Mr. Makwana.
According to the primary information, police said the man’s upper body suffered severe burns after some sort of chemical was applied to his head for the “burn cap.”
An investigation is underway to find out which chemical was used for the “burner cap,” she added.
