Guru Ravidas Jayanti is being observed today, Wednesday, in different parts of Noord -India. Several states have declared a holiday to mark the opportunity. State governments of Punjab, Haryana had Uttarakhand had a public holiday named compliance with Guru Ravidas Jayanti. The government of Delhi also announced a holiday today to celebrate the birthday of the well-known Indian poet and a reputable poet Saint of the Bhakti movement.
Guru Ravidas, a prominent figure in the Bhakti movement in the 15th and 16th centuries, is celebrated for its powerful teachings of equality, social justice and dedication. His birthday is mainly marked in North India, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh. On this day, people remember the teachings of Guru Ravidas and how he worked on reforming society and removing prejudices of the cupboard system.
Feast day for Guru Ravidas Jayanti
To mark the opportunity, various states have announced a holiday today. In Punjab and Haryana, all government offices and schools in large cities such as Mohali, Chandigarh, Gurugram and Faridabad remain.
The government of Uttarakhand also announced a public holiday on Wednesday. All offices, institutions and educational institutions of the government will be closed, except the secretariat and the treasury, said an official release. The state will also organize an extensive cleanliness campaign throughout the state, and the images of Guru Ravidas will be decorated on the occasion.
In Delhi, a holiday has been declared employees of the government and the public sector. “The Lieutenant Gouverneur of Delhi is pleased to explain on Wednesday 12 February 2025, as a holiday in all government offices, autonomous authorities and public companies of the Delhi government, because of Guru Ravidas Jayanti,” a notification issued by the General Administration Department.

Public transport: services such as buses and the metro are expected to work as usual.
Private offices and companies: Most of the private sector institutions, including business offices, shops and restaurants, will probably remain open.
Healthcare: hospitals, clinics and pharmacies will continue to offer essential medical services.
Government offices: All government services, autonomous authorities and public companies in Delhi will be closed today.
Educational institutions: Schools and colleges under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government will be closed to comply with the holidays.
Banks: Banks usually observe public holidays that have been explained by the state. That is why most banks in Delhi will be closed on 12 February. Customers are advised to contact their respective banks or to visit the RBI website for an official list of holidays that apply in their region.
Liquor Shops: There has been no official announcement about liquor store stores that will be closed on Wednesday. Drink stores are expected to work as usual.
