Passenger cars in India saw their highest ever sales in November at 3.48 lakh units, registering a growth of 4.1 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Friday.
Though the Diwali festival did not fall in the month of November, the two-wheeler segment recorded sales of 16.05 lakh units, crossing the 16 lakh unit mark for the first time in a non-Diwali November, the figures showed to see.
The total production of automobiles during the month, including passenger cars, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and four-wheelers, stood at 24,07,351 units in November 2024.
“The demand momentum witnessed in October during the festive period has continued into November for the sector as a whole,” said Rajesh Menon, director general of SIAM.
Data released by the automakers earlier this month showed that there was a rise in sales of cars and SUVs in the domestic market in November, with market leaders Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Tata Motors and Toyota Kirloskar rising during the month recorded an increase in shipments to dealers. .
Maruti Suzuki's total domestic passenger car sales rose to 141,312 units in November this year, compared to 134,158 units in the same month last year. The biggest growth was recorded in the SUV segment, where sales of popular models such as Brezza, Grand Vitara and Jimmy rose to 59,003 units during the month from 49,016 units in November 2023.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recorded a monthly sales volume of 25,586 units in November 2024, up 44 percent from the 17,818 units sold in the same month last year. In addition, the company exported 1140 units.
“Our diverse portfolio, ranging from hatchbacks to SUVs, continues to provide tailor-made mobility solutions that resonate with different lifestyles,” TKM Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business Sabari Manohar said in a statement.
The year 2024 has exceeded the company's expectations, he said.
Tata Motors posted a 2 percent increase in passenger car sales to 47,117 units in November this year.
