New Delhi:
India’s Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said today that the holiday benches will hold hearings via hybrid mode to allow lawyers to appear from different destinations.
The banks will also pick up new business, he said.
The Supreme Court closes for summer vacation from May 22 to July 2 and only holiday courts hold hearings to hear urgent cases.
At the start of Tuesday’s proceedings, India’s chief justice said the holiday benches will deal with new eligibility issues and the hearing will take place via hybrid mode, where lawyers can appear physically and via videoconference from their respective destinations.
“In case someone wants to go and plead from a place that is more convenient, you are very welcome… there is only one condition that the lawyers must be properly dressed,” said the court, which also includes judges PS Narasimha and J. B. Pardiwala.
India’s chief justice said more than 300 new cases, which could not be dealt with, would be listed before the holiday benches.
“My brothers who are in holiday benches have sportingly agreed to hear new cases during holidays,” India’s chief justice said.
