Guwahati:
In the midst of continuous protests of the congress and the Trinamool congress against the amended WAQF law in Bengal, the Tripura unit of the ruling BJP has announced a counter-campaign over the entire state to make the public aware, especially among the Muslim communities of minorities.
The campaign, entitled “WAQF Sudhar Janjagran Abhiyan” – which starts from 20 April, is intended to emphasize the “revolutionary” reforms brought by the NDA government to the center via the WAQF Amendment Act.
The announcement was made by BJP National Secretary Anil K Antony during a party workshop in Agartala today.
The session was attended by BJP leaders of the top state, including Minister President Dr. Manik Saha, former minister -President and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, and is BJP President and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee.
Mr Antony emphasized that the new law is aimed at promoting religious justice, transparency and the economic utilization of poor and marginalized Muslims through the better use of WAQF properties – which, according to the report of the Sachar Committee, form the largest private land bank in the world in 2006.
He pointed out that in 2006 the WAQF board had more than 37 Lakh hectare land, with a value of approximately RS 10 Lakh Crore. Although it had the potential to generate RS 12,000 crore annually, the actual registered income was only RS 160 Crore.
He claimed that the WAQF boards had become corruption and mismanagement shoes, whereby they were not in default that they were intended to serve.
“It took the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spend much-needed reforms to ensure transparency, accountability and modernization of the WAQF boards,” said Mr Antony.
He claimed that according to the new law, within the next six months, all WAQF components throughout India must be registered and the generated income will be diverted to the well -being of poor Muslim families, women and orphans. Moreover, the new provisions even allow marginalized Muslims to form their own WAQF boards.
The BJP leaders hit the congress and trinamool because they would have misled the Muslim community for political gain.
They said that via WAQF Sudhar Janjagran ABHIYAN, BJP employees will contact Madrasa students, women and young people in areas dominated by minorities to explain the benefits and necessity of the law.
“The opposition deliberately spreads misconceptions. Our campaign will focus on removing these lies and bringing the truth to the people,” Antony added.
The party leadership repeated that the law is not only about reforms, but also a long -awaited corrective measure to strengthen the poor and marginalized parts of the Muslim community in a transparent and responsible framework.
