India abstained on a draft resolution tabled by the US and Albania at the UN Security Council condemning Russia’s “illegal referenda” and annexation of four Ukrainian territories and demanding that Moscow immediately withdraw its troops from Ukraine withdraws.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday that “any annexation of the territory of one state by another state as a result of the threat or use of force is a violation of the principles of the UN Charter and international law. ” “Any decision to proceed with the annexation of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions of Ukraine would have no legal value and deserves to be condemned,” Guterres said.
