New Delhi:
India today urged all its citizens to leave the Ukrainian capital Kiev “as a matter of urgency today, by train or any other means available”.
“All Indian citizens, including students, are advised to leave Kiev today urgently, preferably by available trains or by other available means,” says the latest advice from the Indian embassy in Ukraine.
Yesterday, the embassy had asked students to go to the train station in Kiev, where special evacuation trains have been arranged by Ukraine to take people to the western region.
“We sincerely request all Indian citizens/students to remain calm, peaceful and united. Large crowds can be expected at the train stations, therefore it is advised that all Indian students remain patient and composed and above all do not show any aggressive behavior while at the train station” the consultancy said.
The students were asked to have their passport, sufficient cash and good and correct clothing with them.
The advice asked students to expect train delays or cancellations and long queues.

The Twitter account lists helpline numbers in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia – all countries that share a border with Ukraine.
Russia began military operations against Ukraine on Thursday morning after months of tension over the former Soviet republic’s proximity to NATO.
About 16,000 Indian students are still stranded in Ukraine. Many have desperately asked for help by sharing photos and videos on social media from underground bunkers and air raid shelters, where they took refuge from Russian bombs and missiles.
