New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lashed out at the ‘holier than you’ problem that is causing tension in the world, claiming that it is India that gave the mantra ‘the world is one family’.
In his ninth consecutive speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi also asked how long the world will “continue to hand out certificates to us” and how long India will live on such certificates.
“Shall we not set our own standards? Can’t a 130 crore country make an effort to exceed its standards?” he asked.
Prime Minister Modi said the way the world views India has changed after so many decades of independence.
“The world is looking at India with pride, looking forward with anticipation. The world has begun to look for solutions on India’s soil. This change in the world’s thinking is the result of our 75-year journey,” he said.
“The world looks with determination at the way we’ve walked, and the world also lives in hope. The world is starting to see where the ability to live up to expectations lies,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi also spoke of the “tri-shakti” of aspiration, reawakening and of the world’s hopes in fulfillment of which the people of the country have a major role to play.
He said 130 crore people of the country, after many decades of experience, have realized the importance of a stable government, political stability and the kind of power it can wield in the world.
“India has shown the power of policy, how trust is built in the world for that policy and the world understands it too. And when there is political stability, there is dynamism in policy, there is speed in decisions… becomes a partner in development,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi said the country was making progress with the mantra ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, but with ‘Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ people have added more colors to it.
Prime Minister Modi claimed that it is India that has given the world the mantra ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family).
He said the problem of “holier than you” and “I am greater than you” has become the source of tensions.
“We have a legacy that gives the world the knowledge of ‘ekam sadh vipra bahudha vadanti’ (the truth is one, but can be perceived differently by the scholars),” he added.
“We are the people who have seen the well-being of the world, we have traveled from the well-being of the people to the well-being of the world,” the prime minister said.
“When we who walk the path of the world’s well-being wish the world, we say, ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ (good luck to all),’ he said.
