India reported 1,07474 new Covid cases today, 16% lower than yesterday. The positivity rate dropped to 7.42%. The active cases make up 2.90 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate fell to 95.91 percent.

Since December, the number of Covid cases has been rising rapidly due to the new variant Omicron. India’s active caseload currently stands at 12,25,011.
There were 865 new Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of deaths from COVID-19 surpassed 500,000 on Friday, a level many health experts believe was exceeded last year but obscured by imprecise studies and unaccounted-for deaths in the hinterland, where millions remain vulnerable to the disease.
At least 2,13,246 salvages in the past 24 hours brought the total number of salvages to 4,04,61,148.
The daily Covid positivity rate stands at 7.42 percent, while the weekly positivity rate stands at 10.20 percent.
The new cases were registered after 14,48,513 tests were performed in the past 24 hours. A total of 74.01 crore Covid tests have been conducted in India so far.
Nearly 169 crore of COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, the health ministry said. More than 42 lakh (42,95,142) doses of vaccine were administered until 7 p.m. Friday.
Delhi reported 1,604 new cases of COVID-19 and 17 deaths, while the positivity rate fell to 2.87 percent. The national capital has further eased COVID-19 restrictions in anticipation of a dip in the number of cases.
Maharashtra reported 11,394 new cases in the past 24 hours. No new infection of the Omicron variant was reported in Maharashtra on Saturday, the health department said.
Kerala reported 38,684 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, while 28 people died.
The US death toll from the Covid-19 pandemic passed 900,000 on Friday, according to the coronavirus tracker from Johns Hopkins University. By mid-December, a month and a half ago, 800,000 people had died.
