New Delhi:
India’s first regional semi-high-speed rail services have been named ‘RAPIDX’ by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), officials said on Tuesday.
The trains will run on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors, which are being implemented to connect key urban hubs in the National Capital Region (NCR), they said.
The brand name was chosen as ‘RAPIDX’ because it is easy to read and easy to pronounce in different languages.
“In addition to speed and progress, the X in the name represents the next generation of technology and the new mobility solution. It also stands for youth, optimism and energy,” said NCRTC officials.
The green leaf symbol in the logo is the culmination of the brand’s commitment to decarbonization by not only offloading NCR by reducing the number of vehicles on the road, but also by using green energy.
A joint venture of the Union government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the NCRTC is tapping green energy through the installation of solar panels at stations and depots, as well as the use of mixed power in traction that is planned to be phased out. to increase.
According to the NCRTC, “RAPIDX” will connect the people who choose to live in NCR hometown to the national capital through a modern, sustainable, convenient, fast, safe and comfortable means of travel.
“For the youth in NCR, RAPIDX will provide easier and faster access to a world of opportunities that lead them to their aspirations,” it said.
The RAPIDX services on the first RRTS corridor Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut will significantly reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut.
The NCRTC aims to open the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor to the public by 2025.
For that, it will make operational a 17 km priority stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai in 2023 ahead of the scheduled time, she added.
